The Chinese state-owned power utility CHN Energy has commissioned the second 843 MW gas-steam combined-cycle unit of its Anji Power Plant, in east China’s Zhejiang province (CHN Energy press release, 22/01/2025). The project, which is co-invested by CHN Energy and Sinopec, a state-owned oil group, has a total capacity of 1,686 MW, with two 843 MW 9H-class gas turbines supplied by GE Gernova. It is expected to generate 7 TWh/year.
Gas-fired capacity grew by 27% to 132 GW in 2024 (+28 GW, after +4 GW in 2023 and +3 GW in 2022). The share of gas in China’s power mix reached 3% in 2024.
