Chinese power company Guodian Power has started commercial operations at the 252 MW Zhejiang Zhoushan offshore wind park, which is located 12 km south of Liuheng island off the Zheijiang province, in the eastern portion of the Chinese sea. The project broke ground in 2017 and features 63 Siemens Gamesa turbines. It is the first large-scale offshore wind project in the Zhejiang region.
China is moving forward quickly with its offwhore wind plans. In January 2019, the province of Jiangsu cleared 24 offshore wind projects with a total power generation capacity of 6,700 MW. This move is part of the province's “Three Gorges on Sea” ambitious plan to develop 10,000 MW of offshore wind capacity. They will be developed by state-run companies such as China Energy Group, China General Nuclear Power, China Huaneng Group and State Power Investment Corporation. Later in January 2019, the Chinese power utility China Guangdong Nuclear Power Group (CGN) broke ground on its first offshore wind parks in the Guangdong province (China): the 500 MW Shanwei project will be located in Hudong town (Lufeng city) and will be commissioned in 2021, when it will generate nearly 1.4 TWh/year, while the 400 MW Huizhou project will be located Gangkou town, Huidong county and commissioning is expected in 2022. This project will produce nearly 960 GWh/year.
