China is the world's wind power leader

According to China Wind Energy Association, China had 17.6 GW of wind turbines installed in 2011.

Despite a 6.9% decrease in annual installation, China remains the global leader in wind power, in terms of newly and cumulative installed capacities, with 62.4 GW installed in 2011 (+39% compared to 2010). In comparison, the 2010 wind leader, the United States, "only" added 6.8 GW of wind turbines in 2011, reaching 46.9 GW of installed capacity at the end of the year.

The top five Chinese provincial regions for newly installed wind turbines were Inner Mongolia (+3.7 GW and total capacity of 17.6 GW), Hebei (+2.1 GW, total capacity of 6.9 GW), Shandong (+1.9 GW, total capacity of 4.6 GW), Ningxia (+1.7 GW) and Liaoning (+1.2 GW, total capacity of 5.2 GW).

In terms of cumulative total in 2011, the top three wind turbine makers remained Sinovel, Goldwind and Dongfang Electric, as in 2010.
