Chile’s latest technology neutral tender was 8 times oversubscribed

The Chilean National Energy Commissions (CNE) has awarded 2,310 GWh/year of electricity through a technology neutral power auction to supply the energy needs of regulated customers (households and SMEs) connected to the National Electric System (SEN) for a period of 15 years from 2026. The auction reached an average price of US$23.78/MWh (-27% compared to the level achieved in the 2017 tender) and was eight times oversubscribed with bids totalling 18,820 GWh/year. The auction is expected to support 2 GW of renewables and storage projects.

CNE selected 5 companies, including Sonnedix, Opdenergy, Canadian Solar, Racó Energía and EDP Renewables. Sonnedix has been awarded 903 GWh/year, equivalent to 39% of the total. Opdenergy, which submitted a joint solar and wind proposal, won 35% of the total awarded with 819 GWh/year, from a wind and solar portfolio of more than 600 MW.
