Chile’s National Energy Commission (CNE) has published the terms for its 2026/01 power supply tender, which will contract 2.8 TWh/year of energy and capacity for regulated customers under 15-year supply contracts (Energía Estratégica, 20/07/2026). The tender is divided into two blocks: 1.575 TWh/year for the 2029–2043 period and 1.26 TWh/year for the 2030–2044 period, which are also divided into four geographical zones and three time blocks.
The technology-neutral scheme is open to renewable energy projects, natural gas-fired generation and BESS, while excluding coal, petcoke, diesel and fuel oil. Projects may participate on a standalone basis or as hybrid generation-and-storage facilities. Bids must be submitted by 4 December 2026, with contract awards scheduled for 13 January 2027.
The final terms introduce stricter requirements regarding project financing, supply continuity and project development milestones. Storage projects are eligible to back supply commitments provided they are connected to Chile’s National Electric System and can demonstrate sufficient annual energy injection capacity. Most of the tendered energy is allocated to Chile’s central region, which accounts for nearly two-thirds of the contracted volumes.
The tender is aligned with Chile’s 2026—2030 Energy Roadmap, which seeks to achieve 100% green energy generation by the 2030.
