Chile awards only 15% of the auctioned volume in its latest renewable tender

The Chilean National Energy Commission (CNE) has released the results of the country's latest renewable power auction. The tender was under-subscribed as the country awarded only 777 GWh/year out of a total quota of 5,250 GWh/year (15% of the auctioned volume). The Spanish company Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV) and the Chilean company Zapaleri were respectively awarded 651 GWh/year of solar PV and wind and 126 GWh/year of solar PV and storage. The two companies were selected from a pool of 15 participants and will be entitled to 15-year power purchase agreements (PPAs) with distributors, with power supply expected to begin from 1 January 2027. The tender ended with an average price of US$37.4/MWh, up 57.2% compared to last year’s tender, which awarded 2,310 GWh/year.
