Canada’s Hydro-Québec awards 1,550 MW of onshore wind in its latest tender

The Canadian power utility Hydro-Québec has awarded 1,550 MW of onshore wind capacity to be developed in Québec in its latest tender call. Eight bids launched by five developers were successful in the Request for Proposals (RfP) which was first issued in March 2023. The capacity was awarded at an average price of CAD7.8c/kWh (US$6c/kWh).

Three companies were awarded two separate projects each: Innergex Energie Renouvelable (400 MW in total), Boralex Development Canada (365 MW) and Kruger Energie (343 MW). Energies Renouvelables Invenergy Canada and Pattern Renewable Holdings Canada were each awarded a single project of 291 MW and 150 MW respectively. All projects are scheduled for completion between December 2027 and December 2029. Hydro-Québec will sign power purchase agreements (PPAs) with the selected bidders.

This latest auction follows two previous tenders from 2023 in which Hydro-Québec awarded 1.3 GW of renewables capacity, including 300 MW for onshore wind.
