The Brazilian power trading chamber CCEE (Câmara de Comercialização de Energia Elétrica) has awarded 2,100 MW of power generation capacity for a total of 62 projects under the framework of the latest renewables auction (Leilão de Energia Nova A-6). The winning companies are expected to invest approximately BRL7.68bn (US$1.89bn) to build the projects. Under the rules of the auction, the successful projects are slated for commissioning by January 2024. Contracts for about 168 TWh at an average price of BRL140.87/MWh (US$33.89/MWh) were signed for this tender.
48 successful wind projects have a combined capacity of 1,251 MW will receive an average price of BRL90.45/MWh (US$21.76/MWh) under the framework of 20-year power purchase agreements (PPAs). This is 33.8% higher than the BRL67.60/MWh recorded in April 2018, which saw a a 31.45% reduction in successful bids.
Selected hydropower projects have a total capacity of 458 MW awarded at a price of BRL151.08/MWh (US$36.35/MWh) for large installations and BRL193.99/MWh (US$40.75/MWh) for small hydro facilities. Gas-fired and biomass projects have respective capacities standing at 363 MW and 28 MW and will receive an average price of BRL179.98/MWh (US$43.3/MWh) and BRL175.59/MWh (US$42.24/MWh), respectively. PPAs will have a 30-year term for hydropower projects and a 25-year term for gas and biomass.
