Brazil announces new oil and gas bidding rounds for 2018

The Brazilian National Energy Policy Council (CNPE) has announced the holding of the 15th Round of Bids for Exploratory Blocks under the concession regime for March 2018 along with the 4th Round of Bids under the system of production sharing contracts (PSCs) for June 2018.



The 4th licensing round (PSCs) will offer the Três Marias, Dois Irmãos, Uirapuru, Saturno and Itaimbezinho offshore blocks. All of them are located in the Campos and Santos basins, within the Pre-salt Polygon. The results of the last licensing rounds (2nd and 3rd) were announced in October 2017. Six 35-year long PSCs were awarded of which three under the framework of the 2nd Production Sharing Bidding Round (Santos Basin) and three as per the 3rd Production Sharing Bidding Round (Santos and Campos Basins). The selected companies included Shell, Statoil, ExxonMobil, Petrobras and BP.



The 15th licensing round for exploration blocks (concessions) will offer 70 offshore blocks, of which 49 will be located in the offshore basins of Campos, Santos, Ceará, Potiguar and Sergipe-Alagoas (including two blocks adjacent to Saturn) along with 21 onshore blocks in the terrestrial basins of Paraná and Parnaíba. The last round (14th) was closed in September 2017 and a total of 37 blocks were awarded. The total area awarded during the tender was 25,011 km2 and the acquired blocks are distributed in 16 sectors among eight sedimentary basins: Parnaíba, Potiguar, Santos, Recôncavo, Paraná, Espírito Santo, Sergipe-Alagoas and Campos.
