BlueFloat-led consortium plans 5 GW of offshore wind projects in New Zealand
A consortium of offshore wind developers, including renewable company BlueFloat Energy, Energy Estate and Elemental Group, has unveiled plans to develop 5 GW of offshore wind capacity off the coast of New Zealand. The team intends to develop four offshore wind projects across the Aotearoa, in Taranaki, Southland and Waikato regions.
In June 2022, BlueFloat Energy and Energy Estate already unveiled plans for a 1.2 GW offshore wind project in southeast Australia.
In 2021, wind power represented 8% of New Zealand’s installed capacity with 822 MW. The country targets 90% of renewables in the power mix in 2025 and plans to become carbon neutral by 2050.
