Austria plans to tender nearly 2.5 GW of renewables in 2022-2023

Austria's Market Premium Ordinance of the Renewable Energy Expansion Act came into force. The text sets quotas of renewable energy capacity to be tendered in 2022 and 2023, which reach a total of 2,480 MW. Specifically, the country will invite bids for 700 MW of solar, 390 MW of wind, 90 MW of hydro and 15 MW of biomass in 2022. For 2023, Austria intends to launch auctions for 700 MW of solar, 400 MW of wind, 170 MW of hydro and 15 MW of biomass.

Within this framework, a first tender seeking to award 700 MW of solar, 190 MW of wind and 7.5 MW of biomass was opened, for which bids can be submitted from 22 November 2022 to 13 December 2022. Prices are set at €9.3c/kWh for solar, €8.2c/kWh for wind and from €17.5c/kWh to €18.2c/kWh for biomass. In addition, Austria launched a tender for 20 MW of hydro and wind, priced at €8.5c/kWh, with a deadline set for 6 December 2022. Bids can be submitted from 15 November 2022.

The country aims to cover 100% of total national electricity consumption from renewables in 2030 (75% in 2020). The country's installed capacity stands at 30.4 GW (end-2021), with 15.1 GW of hydro, 3.9 GW of wind, 2.8 GW of solar and 2 GW of biomass.
