The Australian Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) has selected six new storage projects totalling 995 MW in Victoria and South Australia under the Capacity Investment Scheme (CIS), which aims to encourage new investment in renewable dispatchable capacity.
It includes two projects in Victoria, namely EnergyAustralia’s Wooreen 350 MW/1,400 MWh lithium-ion battery in the Latrobe Valley and Project Power’s Sringvale Energy Hub 115 MW/230 MWh lithium-ion battery in south-eastern Melbourne, and four projects totalling 1,996 MWh in South Australia, namely Pacific Green Energy’s Limestone Coast West 250 MW lithium-ion battery near Mount Gambier, Zen Energy’s Solar River 170 MW lithium-ion battery located north of Adelaide between Burra and Morgan, Pacific Blue’s Clements Gap 60 MW lithium-ion battery in the state’s mid-north and Energy Australia’s Hallett 50 MW lithium-ion battery in Canownie. Conditional on signing a CIS Agreement, they are due to start operation by mid-2027.
