Australia clears offshore wind projects in Bunbury, including a 1.5 GW project

The Australian federal Government has awarded preliminary feasibility licences for new offshore wind projects in the Bunbury zone of Western Australia, including a potential 1.5 GW project.

In the northern part of the declared area, the Minister for Climate Change and Energy has awarded a preliminary feasibility licence to Bunbury Offshore Wind Farm for a project that would be located 30 km off the coast and have a potential capacity of 1.5 GW, enough to power about one million Australian households.

The ministry has also shortlisted two projects (one from Westward Wind and an additional project from Bunbury Offshore Wind) for a preliminary feasibility licence in the southern area of the zone. The two applicants will now seek to resolve the overlap between them, according to the ministry.
