Australia awards 2.4 GW of renewable and storage capacity on auction

The Australian government has awarded almost 1.9 GW of new renewable power generation and almost 3.7 GWh of standalone battery storage in its Tenders 5 and 6 under the Capacity Investment Scheme (CIS) (Australian government press release, 02/05/2026). The projects are planned to be developed in Western Australia, where they will add generation and storage to the state’s Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM), producing enough power to supply more than 1 million homes and supply peak demand for more than 400,000 households for up to four hours

The projects selected under the Tender 5 are: Neoen Australia’s 420 MW Yathroo and 168 MW Narrogin wind parks, 130 MW Kondinin wind park (led by Shell Energy & Foresight), 240 MW Tathra wind park (by Synergy Renewable Energy Developments), 108 MW Waddi wind park (by Tilt Renewables), 470 MW Parron Maam Marang  wind park (by Zephyr Energy), and Trina Solar’s 350 MW solar and 2.1 GWh BESS Killawarra hybrid project.

Tender 6 awarded the 200 MW/1,518 MWh Collie Battery and Solar Hybrid Project (led by Enpowered & Plenary Group), 200 MW/1,600 MWh Yathroo Battery (by Neoen Australia) and stage 1 of the 82 MW/565 MWh Waroona Renewable Energy Project (by Frontier Energy).
