Argentina will auction 400 MW of renewables as per RenovAr third round

The Argentinian Ministry of Energy (Ministerio de Energía y Minería) has launched the third round of the RenovAr programme for October 2018. 400 MW of renewable power projects will be auctioned, of which 350 MW for wind and solar, 25 MW for biomass, 10 MW for biogas, 10 MW for small hydropower and 5 MW for biomass from landfills. The minimum capacity per project has been set at 500 kW and the maximum capacity at 10 MW. Bids will be accepted until March 2019 and the awarding of contracts is scheduled for July 2019.



147 projects were allocated under the framework of the RenovAr first and second rounds, of which 2,466 MW for wind power, 1,732 MW for solar projects, 158 MW for biomass, 65 MW for biomass, 32 MW for small hydropower and 13 MW for biomass from landfills. In total, 4,466 MW have been awarded at an average price of US$54.72/MWh.



The second round was largely oversubscribed and attracted 228 offers with a combined capacity of 9,402 MW. 66 new projects were selected in December 2017 with a combined capacity of 1,410 MW, of which 666 MW for wind energy (8 projects with an average bid price of US$41.23/MWh), 557 MW for solar energy (12 projects with an average bid price of US$43.46/MWh) and 117 MW for biomass (14 projects with an average bid price of US$106.73/MWh).
