The Transandino oil pipeline between the province of Neuquén in Argentina and Chile could be restarted in 2022, after being out of service for almost 16 years due to a declining production in Argentina. The project, which was commissioned in 1994, has a transport capacity of 115,000 bbl/d and could deliver up to 100,000 bbl/d to Chile. The infrastructure is owned by the Chilean state energy company ENAP (36.25%), the Argentine energy company YPF (36%) and Unocal Argentina (27.75%).
In addition, the Oleoductos del Valle (Oldelval) oil pipeline system in Argentina is being increased by 50,000 bbl/d and should be operational from the first quarter of 2022.
In 2020, Argentina produced 620 kb/d of oil (-6% compared to 2020). The country exported an average of 98 kb/d, mainly to the United States (50%) and the Netherlands (25%). Argentina aims to boost crude oil production from the Vaca Muerta play (around 230 kb/d in October 2021) and from the Neuquén province.
