Argentina has announced plans to launch a new renewables and grid capacity tender, which should secure a certain amount of renewable energy in 2019 (the amount will be specified later this year) and help Argentina achieve its 20% renewable target by 2025. The Round 4 tender of the renewable energy auction programme of Argentina (RenovAr) is currently under evaluation and is expected to take place during 2019.
147 projects were allocated under the framework of the RenovAr first and second rounds, of which 2,466 MW for wind power, 1,732 MW for solar projects, 158 MW for biomass, 65 MW for biomass, 32 MW for small hydropower and 13 MW for biomass from landfills. In total, 4,466 MW have been awarded at an average price of US$54.72/MWh. The third round, RenovAr 3 was launched in November 2018 to award 400 MW of renewable capacity for projects between 0.5 MW and 10 MW (including 350 MW of wind and solar PV, 25 MW of biomass, 10 MW of biogas and 5 MW for landfill biogas). Bids were placed until March 2019 and results are set to be published in May 2019.
