The National Electric Energy Agency of Brazil (ANEEL) has approved 58 projects in the A6 power auction for new power projects to be commissioned within 6 years (as of January 2025). Overall, 39 wind projects were selected (901 MW), along with one 30 MW solar PV project, 16 hydropower projects (179 MW) and two thermal power projects (75 MW), corresponding to a total capacity of 1,185 MW. Contracts with hydropower projects have a 30-year term, while wind and solar projects sign 20-year contracts and thermal projects (gas-fired and biomass-fired) sign 25-year contracts.
A total of 91 power generation projects with a combined capacity of 2.98 GW had been pre-qualified in October 2019 to take part in the auction that was held in December 2019, including 27 hydropower plants (446 MW), 44 wind projects (1,040 MW), 11 solar PV projects (530 MW), 6 biomass-fired power plants (230 MW) and 3 gas-fired power plants (696 MW).
