The Brazilian National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL) has awarded 20 years and 30 years power purchase agreements for 985 MW of renewable capacity under the New Energy Auctions A-3/2021 and A-4/2021 held on 8 July 2021 that represents a total of BRL4bn (US$760m) in future investments. The country selected 33 wind projects totalling 420 MW, 7 solar projects totalling 269 MW, 5 biomass projects totalling 184 MW and 6 hydro projects totalling 112 MW. Power supply is scheduled to start on 1 January 2024 and 1 January 2025. The 10-Year Energy Expansion Plan 2030 (Plan Decenal de Expansão de Energia 2030, PDE 2030) forecasts a 48% share of renewables in the energy mix in 2030 (20% in 2020, excluding hydro). Renewables (including hydro) accounts for 75% of Brazil’s installed capacity, with 109.4 GW of hydro, 17.1 GW of wind, 15.3 GW of biomass and 7.7 GW of solar.
