Andhra Pradesh (India) launches tender for 6.4 GW of solar projects

The state government of Andhra Pradesh (south-eastern India) has launched a tender for 6.4 GW for solar projects to be developed in 10 locations in the state, including 600 MW at Chakrayapet, 400 MW at Thondur, 600 MW at Kambaldinne, 600 MW at Pendlimarri, 600 MW at Rudrasamudram, 600 MW at CS Puram, 600 MW at Uruchinatala, 1,200 MW at Akmbadur, 600 MW at Mudigubba, and 600 MW at Kolimigundala. To do so, Andhra Pradesh has created create an affiliate of its AP Power Generation Corporation, named Andhra Pradesh Green Energy Corporation. The objective is to supply farmers with quality power and ensure that they get 9 hours of free electricity per day. The deadline to submit the bids is 28 December 2020. The bidder should submit a single bid for a minimum capacity of 300 MW and in multples of 300 MW (except for the 400 MW Thondur project).

In June 2020, Andhra Pradesh approved a proposal to create 10 GW of solar power plants.  In October 2020, the state government identified 7 potential locations to set up pumped-storage hydropower projects with a combined capacity of up to 6.3 GW, in a bid to promote new renewable energy power plants and to balance the fluctuations in solar and wind power generation. Consultancy firms are finalising the detailed project reports for setting up the power plants, which would be located in Gandikota (Kadapa), Chitravati (Ananthapuram), Somasila (Nellore), Owk (Kurnool), Kurukutti, Karrivalasa (Vizianagaram) and Yerravaram (Visakhapatnam).
