Algeria awards licenses of 1st oil exploration and production tender

Algeria’s National Agency for the Valorization of Hydrocarbon Resources (ALNAFT) has announced the winners of its first call for tender conducted under the hydrocarbon law No.19-13. The Algeria Bid Round 2024 awarded through a competitive bid process the exploration and production rights for the onshore Ahara Block to a consortium between QatarEnergy (24.5%), TotalEnergies (24.5%, operator during the exploration phase) and Algeria's national oil and gas company Sonatrach (51%). 

The Italian Eni and Thailand’s PTTEP won the license for the Reggane II block. Chinese companies Sinopec and ZPEC (Zhongman Petroleum) won the Kirn El Kassa II licence (Gourara-Timimoun basin) and the Zerafa II block (Ahnet-Gourara basin), respectively. Trading houses Zangas (Austria) and Filada (Switzerland) won the Toual II area in the Berkine basin.  

Algeria has large proved crude oil and natural gas reserves (1.7 Gt of oil and 4,500 bcm of gas, respectively, end of 2023).
