The Albanian Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy has announced the launch of its fourth solar power auction, offering a total of 300 MW to be allocated among projects ranging from 10 MW to 100 MW. According to the announcement, the maximum acceptable price in the auction is €59.97/MWh. Investors are expected to secure land rights themselves and winners will secure 15-year contracts for difference (CfDs). The deadline for submitting project proposals is 17 May 2024 and the winner announcement is expected to be published on 10 July 2024.
By the end of 2021 Albania’s electricity capacity was of 2.6 GW, of which 96% comes from hydroelectric facilities while solar capacity only accounted for 1% (26 MW). In 2022, the 140 MW Karavasta solar PV projet was commissioned in Fier by Voltalia, which had won Albania's first solar tender in 2020 with a record price of €24.89/MWh (less than half the €55/MWh auction ceiling).
