Albania awards eight consortiums in solar PV auction (300 MW)

The Albanian Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure has announced eight winners in its latest solar auction, which offered 300 MW. 14 applicants presented their bids to the procedure, of which nine qualified offering 356 MW,  and eight were selected for a total capacity of 284 MW (projects ranging between 10 MW and 56 MW). The winners obtained a sale and purchase contract of electricity for a 15-year period at an unchanged price, determined by the proposed price in their respective bids. The ceiling price was set at €59.97/MWh, with the lowest offer being €39.7/MWh and an average price of €51.3/MWh. The support will be in the form of contracts for difference (CfDs). The awardees were required to secure the land rights on their own, contrary to past tenders where the Albanian Government engaged state assets.

Albania had previously launched three solar PV auctions: one in 2018 (100 MW) in Arkeni and two in 2020 in Karavasta (140 MW) and Spitalla. The Karavasta photovoltaic project was officially commissioned in February 2024 and Spitalla is currently under construction.
