Akaysha Energy has started commercial operations at its 850 MW/1,680 MWh Waratah Super Battery (WSB) in New South Wales, Australia (Akaysha Energy press release, 28/09/2026). The WSB was commissioned by the local NSW government and is built, owned and operated by Akaysha Energy.
The AUD1bn (USD703m) project, located on the site of the former Munmorah coal-fired power plant, is part of the largest Waratah Super Battery Project, which includes a System Integrity Protection Scheme Control System delivered by Transgrid.
The project was originally won by Akaysha Energy on a state government tender in October 2022, securing planning permission in 2023.
