The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and Abu Dhabi Power Corporation (ADPower) have issued a joint tender for the development and operation of a HVDC subsea transmission line connecting ADNOC's offshore production facilities to ADPower's onshore power grid in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates). The proposed HVDC project would include two subsea HVDC lines and converter stations that would have a total installed capacity of 3,200 MW. The project would be developed by a special purpose vehicle of ADNOC (30%), ADPower (30%) and the selected developers and investors (40%), on a build, own, operate and transfer (BOOT) basis. Commissioning is expected in 2025.
The power line project would optimise ADNOC's gas consumption - the company currently uses gas to power its offshore production facilities - and gas-related revenues, while cutting its CO2 emissions.
