Adani Power secures 3.2 GW coal power tender in Assam state (India)

India's energy group Adani Power has presented the lowest bid for a 3.2 GW coal power supply tender presented by the Assam state electricity commission, in Northeastern India (India Times, 31/10/2025). The company expects to receive a formal communication of the award in the coming days.

  • In August 2025, Adani Power announced plans to invest about US$5bn in two new coal-power projects as part of its strategy to increase its total capacity to 42 GW by 2032 from its current 18 GW.
  • Its first 12 GW are expected to be commissioned by fiscal year 2030.

Several Indian states are seeking to install over 22 GW of new thermal capacity to secure long-term baseload capacity to face intermittency challenges.

Coal dominates India’s power capacity with 50% in 2024 and 70% of its power mix.
