The Saudi company ACWA Power and China Southern Power Grid International (CSGI) have commissioned two onshore wind power projects in Uzbekistan totalling 1 GW. The Bash and Dzhankeldy wind parks, with a capacity of 500 MW each, are located in the Bukhara region of central Uzbekistan.
The wind projects are built and operated by ACWA Power (with a 65% stake), and CSGI (with a 35% stake). The two power plants each consist of 79 wind turbines and are together expected to generate 3.235 TWh/year of electricity.
Uzbekistan aims to reach 27 GW of renewable energy capacity and 40% of electricity production from renewables by 2030. As of end-2023, Uzbekistan had less than 1 MW of installed wind capacity, but Masdar’s 500 MW Zarafshan wind power plant was inaugurated in 2024.
