ABP and partners plan to bid for 4 GW of offshore wind in the Netherlands

The Dutch pension fund ABP has set up a new partnership that intends to bid in an upcoming tender for 4 GW of offshore wind in the Dutch North Sea. The consortium, named Noordzeker, will take part in the bidding for the IJmuiden Ver wind park, which is planned to be developed 62 km off the west coast of the Netherlands. The specific zone is expected to contain 6 GW of offshore turbine capacity over six 1 GW sites, four of which are due to be auctioned in 2023 to create a 4 GW complex.

The registration process for the tender will be launched at the end of 2023, with winners to be announced in the first half of 2024. A tender for sites V and VI of the IJmuiden Ver wind park is planned to be held in 2025.

Offshore wind power capacity in the Dutch North Sea has been rising steadily, with 2.5 GW now in operation (end-2021). The Dutch government targets 21 GW of offshore wind installed capacity by 2030.
