Ukraine’s 700 MW auction to support new wind power projects has attracted 93 bids from nine companies, representing a combined proposed capacity of more than 1.2 GW. The auction was organised by Guaranteed Buyer, the state entity responsible for conducting auctions to support new renewable power generation. “Nine participants have been declared for the auction for wind farms with a quota of 700 MW and with a total number of applications of 93 with a total capacity of 1218.1 MW and price indicators from 2.98 to 7.59 euro cents/kWh with a price cap of 8 euro cents”, it said in its press release.
The auction is part of Ukraine’s 2026 renewable energy support programme. The government has set aside 1 GW of support for new renewable energy projects in 2026, including 700 MW for wind generation, with support delivered through a market-premium mechanism. In August 2026, the government revised the auction framework, including provisions concerning financial guarantees and the timeframe for confirming the connection of projects to the electricity grid.
Wind power remains a marginal source of electricity generation in Ukraine. According to our data, nuclear power accounted for 51% of total generation in 2024, compared with 47% in 2010. It was followed by coal at 20%, versus 37% in 2010, hydropower at 12%, gas at 11%, solar at 5%, and wind at 0.3% (Enerdata Global Energy Research).
