7 wind projects qualify in Finland's first renewable tender

The Energy Authority of Finland has selected 7 of the 26 wind projects submitted in the country's first technology-neutral auction. The auction aimed at securing up to 1.4 TWh/year of electricity from wind, solar and wave power, and from biomass and biogas. The combined power generation of the accepted projects reached 1.36 TWh/year, including 370 GWh/year for Simo (TuuliWatti, 117 MW), 320 GWh/year for Kalax (developed by Fortum, 70 MW), 215 GWh/year for Isojoki-Kristiinankaupunki (CPC, 50.4 MW), 158 GWh/year for Pyhäjoki (Puhuri, 54 MW), 120 GWh/year for Kestilä (Kestilän Kokkonevan Tuulivoima, 29.4 MW), 107 GWh/year for Haapavesi (Puhuri, 30 MW) and 70 GWh/year for Liminka (Winda Power, 20 MW).

Selected power producers will receive a premium based on their respective tender over a 12-year period. The average bid price was €2.49/MWh (lowest bid of €1.27/MWh and highest bid of €3.97/MWh), whereas the average price of the rejected bids was €8.52/MWh. The premium will be paid when the average of the three-month market price of electricity is equal to or lower than a reference price of €30/MWh. A sliding scale will be used if the market price exceeds the reference price and no aid will be paid if the market price is higher than the sum of the reference price and the approved premium.
