Softbank is planning to build a 200 MW solar farm in an area of 480ha in southwestern Hokkaido, Japan. The project is projected to potentially have a maximum capacity of 340 MW. The project has been planned in order to take advantage of upcoming government directives, that will mandate utilities to buy electricity from renewable sources. The company is in negotiations with Hokkaido Electric over the purchase of future electricity generated under a proposed FiT system.
Moreover, Kyocera has announced that it plans to start construction of the 70 MW," Kagoshima Nanatsujima Mega-Solar Power Plant" in Japan by mid-2012. The plant will be built in Kagoshima City located inside the Kagoshima Prefecture. The total surface area of the planned site is approximately 1,270 km2. The total project cost is estimated at approximately 25bn Yen (US$309m). The project will be owned by Kyocera Corporation, IHI and Mizuho Corporate Bank.
