13 companies interested in PGE's 2.5 GW offshore wind projects (Poland)

Polish power utility Polska Grupa Energetyczna (PGE) reported that 13 companies responded to its invitation to take part in developing over 2,545 MW of offshore wind power capacity in the Baltic Sea. The first 1,500 MW would be located within an area covered by a concession held by Elektrownia Wiatrowa Baltica-2, while the remaining 1,045 MW would be within an area controlled by Elektrownia Wiatrowa Baltica-3. First power from the wind projects is set to be delivered in 2025 with commercial operation in 2026.

PGE is seeking to eventually sell up to a 50% stake in two special purpose vehicles that will be developing the offshore projects and will operate with the selected partner on a joint venture (JV) basis. The partner is expected to have extensive experience in European offshore wind, be prepared to share knowledge with PGE and be able to support technical aspects of the projects such as managing contractors.

Offshore wind is one of PGE's strategic development options after 2020. At the end of 2018, the company owned about 2.2 GW of renewable energy assets across Poland, most of which are wind parks and hydropower plants.
