Indian state-owned power utility Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) has asked the winners of its May 2019 wind power auction in Gujarat to cut tariffs. The tariffs must match those from the lowest bidder Enerfra, for a 50 MW project, at INR2.80/kWh (US$3.9c/kWh) in order for projects to receive power purchase agreements. The second-lowest bidders Powerica and Vena Energy, which had been awarded 50 MW and 100 MW, respectively, at INR2.81/kWh (US$3.99c/kWh), have agreed to reduce their tariffs.
In May 2019, GUNVL selected eight renewable companies to develop 745 MW of wind power projects in Gujarat (India) at tariffs ranging between INR2.80/kWh (US$3.9c/kWh) and INR2.95/kWh (US$4.19c/kWh). It had also awarded 200 MW to Renew Wind Energy (tariff of INR2.95/kWh, i.e. US$4.19c/kWh), 114 MW to Adani Renewable, 101 MW to Sarjan Realities (tariff of INR2.87/kWh, i.e. US$4.07c/kWh), and 100 MW to Virdi Clean Alternatives (INR2.95/kWh, i.e. US$4.19c/kWh). Those companies will not be awarded any power purchase agreement (PPA) as they refused to match the lowest tariff, de facto scrapping the wind power projects.
