The Tunisian government has announced that it has granted licenses to three companies to develop 500 MW of renewable power capacity, for a total investment of US$410m. The companies are Scatec (Norway), Engie Nareva (a joint venture of Engie and Morocco's group Nareva Holding), and TBEA-AMEA (a consortium of AMEA Power, a subsidiary of Al Nowais Investments (ANI, United Arab Emirates), and TBEA Group (China). The solar PV parks will be built in Tataouine (200 MW), Kairouan (100 MW, TBEA-AMEA), Gafsa (100 MW), Tozeur (50 MW) et Sidi Bouzid (50 MW). The new 500 MW capacity is expected to help Tunisia cut its gas imports by 6% in 2022.
In addition, the government announced its plan to request offers to produce 1,500 MW of renewable power during the year, as the country aims to cover 30% of its power mix with renewables by 2030.
