Transgrid, the power transmission system operator (TSO) in New South Wales (NSW) and the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) (Australia), has shortlisted nine battery projects totalling 2 GW to start providing system strength services to the NSW transmission network as soon as the second half 2026.
As part of its System Strength Plan (2025), the company is "targeting 5 GW of stabilising services from third-party owned batteries to complement the proven grid-strengthening role played by synchronous condensers." Transgrid also plans to add targeted solutions to support new renewables within the New England and Hunter-Central Coast Renewable Energy Zones.
