TenneT will invest €28bn between 2018 and 2028 (Germany, Netherlands)

The Dutch electricity transmission network operator TenneT announced a 22% increase in its underlying revenue in 2017 to €3.95bn. The TSO transported 16 TWh of wind energy in the German sector of the North Sea in 2017 (+50% compared with 2016). The development of a 3,500 MW offshore system to connect wind parks (Borssele, Holland Coast South and Holland Coast North) off the Dutch coast to the onshore grid is in line with the schedule. Over the 2023-2030 period, a capacity increase of 7,000 MW could be implemented, if confirmed in the Dutch roadmap for wind energy.

TenneT plans to invest €28bn over the coming ten years, most of which will be related to grid expansions and maintenance. In the Netherlands, TenneT will focus on grid expansion and replacement programme, including expanding the offshore grid (3,500 MW) and developing several high-voltage onshore transmission such as the Randstad 380 kV North Ring, South-West 380 kV, North-West 380 kV, the COBRAcable and the Doetinchem-Wesel interconnector. TenneT will also upgrade the 380 kV national ring.

In Germany, TenneT will invest in the SuedLink and SuedOstLink direct current onshore transmission projects. These projects will be largely installed underground. In addition, TenneT will execute more than 20 major projects in Germany.

In 2017, TenneT Netherlands, TenneT Germany and the Danish TSO Energinet.dk partnered with Gasunie and the Port of Rotterdam Authority to jointly develop the "North Sea Wind Power Hub", a proposed energy island with a capacity of up to 100 GW to connect offshore wind pars in the North Sea to the German, Dutch, UK, Belgian, Norwegian and Danish electricity markets in the long term (2030-2050).
