Spectra submits EIA application for 43 bcm/year gas project in Canada

Spectra Energy has submitted an Environmental Assessment Certificate Application for its Westcoast Connector Gas Transmission Project to the British Columbia Environmental Assessment Office (BC EAO) in Canada. The proposed Westcoast Connector Gas Transmission Project is a new natural gas system that will begin in the Cypress area of northeast B.C. and end at BG Group’s proposed Prince Rupert LNG export facility, on Ridley Island. It would consist of two pipelines with total design capacity of 8.4 bcf/d (nearly 87 bcm/year) in a single right-of-way, creating an opportunity for multiple LNG projects to the Prince Rupert area. Service of the initial, approximately 850-km and up to 4.2 bcf/d (43 bcm/year) gas pipeline, with project partner BG Group on a 50-50 basis, is currently expected to commence in 2019 at the earliest, pending final investment decision.
