Slovenia will invest €3.5bn in its power distribution system by 2032

The Slovenian Energy agency has approved a plan proposed by the country’s electricity distribution system operator SODO to invest €3.5bn into Slovenia’s power distribution system over the next 10 years.

Of the total investment, €2.5bn (72%), will be allocated to low- and medium-voltage networks, which have not yet received the necessary upgrades to face current scale and consumption. Of this sum, €1.2bn has been set aside for the low-voltage grid, while 12% will go to 110 kV infrastructure and 8% to secondary equipment. The development plan also envisages an increase in the share of underground medium-voltage lines from the current 38% to 60%, and an increase in the total share of underground medium- and low-voltage lines from 53% to 71%.

The plan was drafted by SODO in cooperation with all five of the country’s distribution companies and aims to allow Slovenia to withstand the increased demand for electricity that is expected to come with the green transition.
