SGRE wins turbine order for 300 MW offshore wind project in Taiwan

Hai Long Offshore Wind, the consortium of Northland Power (Canada, 60%) and Yushan Energy (Taiwan, partly owned by Mitsui, 40%), has selected Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) to supply its 14 MW wind turbines for the 300 MW Hai Long 2 offshore wind project in Taiwan; in addition, Hai Long is considering using these turbines for the rest of its 1,044 MW Hai Long offshore wind project pipeline.

The Hai Long offshore wind power plant was awarded through the 2018 grid allocation mechanism in Taiwan and Northland Power signed a 10-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Taiwanese state-run power utility Taipower for the project in March 2019. The company opted for a tiered tariff of TWD6,279/MWh (US$209/MWh) for the first 10 years and a TWD4,142/MWh (US$138/MWh) for the remaining 10 years. Hai Long 2A is the first of three projects to be built in the Hai Long zone, where about 1 GW are expected to be built.
