Ocean Winds, the 50:50 joint venture between EDP Renewables and ENGIE, has secured offshore consent from the Scottish Government for the 2 GW Caledonia offshore wind project, situated approximately 40 km off the Moray Firth coast in Scotland (United Kingdom) (Scottish Government statement, 17/07/2026).
The project is being developed under Crown Estate Scotland’s ScotWind leasing programme and consists of two offshore wind parks totalling 140 turbines: Caledonia North and Caledonia South, each with an expected installed capacity of 1 GW. Caledonia North will be bottom-fixed, while Caledonia South is a combined fixed bottom and floating offshore wind project. Once commissioned, the project is expected to generate enough clean electricity to meet the equivalent annual demand of around two million households.
The offshore approval comes after Aberdeenshire Council granted full onshore consent earlier in 2026, fulfilling the final major regulatory condition required for the project to move forward to the next stage of development. Subject to the outcome of the Contracts for Difference (CfD) allocation process and a positive Final Investment Decision (FID), Ocean Winds plans to begin offshore construction in 2030.
