Russia plans to build 600 MW of energy storage units in 2026

According to the Russian Ministry of Energy, pilot energy storage units are under construction in South Russia and could add 250 MW of storage capacity as early as July 2026. In addition, the ministry expects additional energy storage systems with a total capacity of 100 MW to appear in South Russia by the end of 2026. Finally, the ministry is considering building 250 MW of energy storage systems in the Primorsky Region (Russian Far East) with the capacity of about 250 MW to provide the region with electric power. Overall, 600 MW of storage capacity could be operational by the end of the year.
