The country's first regasification plant, Quintero LNG, is due to be fully operational by 2010. The facility, located approximately 110 km northwest of Santiago, will be owned by a joint venture between BG Group (40%), state-owned Enap (20%), Endesa (20%) and Metrogas (20%). The project, estimated at $1.3bn, will have a capacity of 3.7 bcm/year of LNG but has secured sales for a total of 2.3 bcm/year to Endesa, ENAP and Metrogas. The facility will be supplied from BG's liquefaction portfolio, notably through export capacity in Trinidad and Egypt. The terminal will also include two 160 000 cm LNG storage tanks. On July 13rd, BG Group announced the delivery of the first cargo of LNG to the new terminal. Mejillones LNG, the country's second import terminal, will have a capacity of 19.7 bcm/year and is under construction. According to the project operator, GDF Suez, its commissioning is scheduled in early 2010. The regasification terminal should receive its first shipment from Trinidad and Tobago.
