Qatar signs LNG export deals with JERA (3 Mt/year) and Petronas (2 Mt/year)

QatarEnergy has signed a long-term Sale and Purchase Agreement (SPA) with the Japanese power utility JERA for 3 Mt/year of LNG (JERA press release, 03/02/2026). The contract spans 27 years, with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2028 on a delivered ex-ship (DES) basis. The Qatari group has also signed a 20-year Sale and Purchase Agreement (SPA) for up to 2 Mt/year with Malaysia’s Petronas (Petronas press release, 04/02/2026). 

In 2024, QatarEnergy announced a new LNG expansion project on its North Field gas development, named “North Field West”, which will raise the country’s LNG production capacity from 77 Mt/year to 142 Mt/year by 2030 (+85% from current production levels).
