Poland eyes 4.5 bcm/year LNG capacity boost with second Gdańsk FSRU

The Polish gas pipeline operator Gaz-System has opened registration for parties interested in booking long-term capacity for regasified LNG, as it is considering whether to invest in a second regasification vessel in Gdańsk, Poland (Gaz-System press release, 20/03/2026). This initiative is intended to enable market participants to confirm their interest in long-term capacity bookings, with the results serving as a basis for the final investment decision (FID) and the potential construction of the second vessel (FSRU 2) at the LNG terminal in Gdańsk.

In the second half of 2025, Gaz-System conducted a market survey regarding the expansion of the FSRU terminal’s capacity in the Gulf of Gdańsk. Participants expressed strong interest in the new facility, highlighting demand for long-term regasification services to be provided by the second FSRU vessel, according to the statement.

The second FSRU would have a technical regasification capacity of 4.5 bcm/year. According to the press release, “the new LNG terminal will not only meet the growing demand of the domestic energy sector, but will above all enhance access for countries in the region to global LNG sources.”

Poland currently has one LNG regasification terminal, Świnoujście, commissioned in 2016, with a capacity of 8.3 bcm/year. Gaz-System is also planning a first FSRU LNG terminal in the Polish port, with a regasification capacity of 6.1 bcm/year, expected to become operational in 2028.
