PGE unveils its 2012-2035 strategy in Poland

Polska Grupa Energetyczna (PGE), the largest utility in Poland, has unveiled its 2012-2035 strategy. The company aims to increase its installed capacity from 13.1 GW to 15.8 GW in 2020 and 21.3 GW in 2035, including about 4.5 GW in nuclear power plants. The generation mix should be oriented towards low carbon generation: the large share of coal and lignite (94%) should be reduced to 73% in 2020, to the advantage of gas (15% compared to 4% in 2010) and renewables (11%, from 3% in 2010). By 2035, nuclear should account for 36%, coal and lignite for 21% (+17% with CCS), gas for 11% and renewables for 14%. Nuclear units are expected to be commissioned between 2025 and 2030. This should enable PGE to reduce its CO2 emissions, from 1.06 t/MWh in 2010 to 0.86 t/MWh in 2020 and to 0.27 t/MWh in 2035.

PGE also aims to raise its share in the domestic generation from 42% in 2010 to 44% in 2020 and 46%, and to increase the share of its production in total sales to 62% in 2035, from 57% in 2010.
