Himeji Natural Gas Power Generation, a subsidiary of Osaka Gas, has commissioned the 623 MW Unit 1 of a planned 1.25 GW gas-fired power plant in Himeji, Japan (Osaka Gas press release, 05/01/2026). Unit 2, also with a capacity of 623 MW, is expected to start operations in May 2026.
The 1.25 Himeji natural gas power plant, operated by Osaka Gas subsidiary Daigas Gas & Power Solution, is planned to use a “highly efficient gas turbine combined cycle power generation system”. The full commissioning of the project is expected to increase Daigas's thermal power capacity in Japan to approximately 3.2 GW.
