Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) has agreed to acquire Ørsted’s European onshore business, which includes over 800 MW of operating and under-construction capacity, as well as a multi-gigawatt development pipeline (CIP press release, 03/02/2026).
- The transaction covers Ørsted’s entire European onshore portfolio, including onshore wind, solar, and BESS projects in Ireland, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Spain. It consists of 578 MW of operational capacity, 248 MW under construction, and a multi-gigawatt development pipeline.
- The total value of the transaction is €1.44bn, with closing expected in the second quarter of 2026, subject to regulatory approvals.
According to the company’s press release, “Following closing, the onshore business will operate as a stand-alone business with a new company name and brand”.
For its part, Ørsted stated: “Together with the strengthening of Ørsted’s balance sheet and the finalisation of its divestment programme, the transaction also contributes to delivering on Ørsted’s strategic priority of refocusing on offshore wind in its core European markets, where a significant amount of capacity is expected to be tendered in the coming years”.
As of February 2026, Ørsted has 10.2 GW of installed offshore wind capacity and 8.1 GW under construction. Its total installed renewable energy capacity across Europe, Asia-Pacific, and North America exceeds 18 GW, spanning a portfolio that also includes onshore wind, solar power, energy storage, and bioenergy plants.
