PetroVietnam Power (PV Power) has started operations of Units 3 and 4 of its Nhon Trach LNG-fired power plant, located in the Dong Nai province in southern Vietnam (PVN press release, 11/12/2025). The US$1.4bn project constitutes Vietnam’s first LNG power plant project. It was financed and built by PV Power and has a combined capacity of 1,624 MW (2x812 MW). The project uses GE's 9HA.02 gas turbine technology, which allows flexibility in the fuel use (up to 50% hydrogen) and it aims to eventually supply 100% hydrogen. The Nhon Trach 3 and 4 will source its LNG from the Thi Vai LNG terminal.
The projects are aligned with Vietnam’s aim to achieve net-zero by 2050.
