The upstream and downstream integrated Agadem project has been inaugurated on November 28th. CNPC will produce 1 Mt/year of crude oil from the Adadem field and 20 000 bbl/d of petroleum products from the Zinder Refinery. The refinery and the field are linked by a 460 km pipeline. The first explorations of the Agadem field revealed the possibility of an important field (geological similarity with Chad). CNPC had begun development of the field in 2008 and estimates reserves of about 24 Gt of oil.
Prices for oil products from the Zinder refinery in Niger have been set and will take effect on December 1st. The refinery gate cost per liter of gasoline will be CFAF366 and the service station rate will be CFAF570. The rate for Diesel fuel at the refinery gate has been is set at CFAF348 and CFAF577 for gas station. The prices have been agreed on between the Niger authorities and the China National Petroleum Corporation who built the facility. These prices are judged to be high by the population.
