MVM starts building 1 GW CCGT project in Tiszaujvaros (Hungary)

Construction has officially been launched at MVM's Tisza II CCGT power project in Tiszaujvaros (Hungary) (CEEnergy News, 26/03/2026).

Developed by the national power utility MVM and built by a consortium led by the Turkish construction group Çalık Enerji and including the Italian turbine supplier Ansaldo Energia, the HUF600bn (EUR1.5bn) gas-fired power project will consist of two 500 MW units, for a total capacity of 1 GW. The first unit is expected to start operations in September 2029, followed by the second unit in February 2030. 

The CCGT project is aimed at providing baseload capacity in a context of rising solar power generation.
